James Baldwin Essay
Although Baldwin’s analysis in FNT does go beyond anti-Black racism in his discussion of antisemitism in Europe, that racism is his primary focus.
How does his analysis apply to other marginalized groups?
Choose one such group, and in a short essay, apply Baldwin’s argument to their struggle. Consider, in particular, how Baldwin uses the concepts of liberation and love. You might also look at how and why he brings up aristocrats and beauty.
Your claim should identify what group you’re connecting Baldwin to, and say what sort of message Baldwin might have about how that group’s struggle might be overcome.
Each body paragraph should center on a short quote from FNT. What does that quote mean, and how does it connect or apply to the group you chose?
Explain what Baldwin means by his often abstract and challenging diction. Then, describe how those words, and the concepts inside them, apply to the group you are analyzing.
