Congrats! You were selected out of the numerous applicants for the Curator of Sculpture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Your first assignment is to select three works of art for the MET for a traveling exhibition in your specialized area – Sculpture. Of all the works collected from the museum, which three will you choose and why? (The sculpture found in the textbook will be available to you for your exhibition, consider them in storage or at another museum – you can only choose three works.) Please provide a description of each work you chose with the elements of art and principles of design along with historical importance and why you chose these three. (The historical importance is found at the beginning of the chapter.) Questions to answer are: Did you choose a sculpture from each era? Did you only choose those which you feel would bring in big crowds? Will you take a leap and introduce works that are not as popular - or maybe a mix of both? Be sure to also post meaningful responses to two classmates' discussions before the end of this module.
Format for posting your exhibit:
Large, historical plaque should be only three paragraphs in length. (Avoid using text directly from the textbook as students should decipher the most important aspects of history and impart this in the large plaque. The historical information will be at the beginning of your exhibit.
Three smaller plaques, (one for each work of sculpture you selected) will describe the work including a few of the elements of art and principles of design used in earlier chapters of the textbook. Discuss a few interesting facts about each sculpture.
Answer the questions listed above in the directions.
How much should I post?
Be sure to answer each question completely. Expectations for completing discussions are to read the textbook, watch videos attached to the Module and websites (when available), and answer each question using the information in your own words. Students learn by transmitting what they've learned from a source (the textbook) and wording it in their own language. Be exhaustive in your answers by shooting for at least 1/2 page, (equal to a paragraph with ten sentences or more) single-spaced, no larger than 12-point font, New Times Roman, in your original postings. You can copy and paste from a word document if you'd like. You need to post your response to the question by Wednesday of each week. You will also be required to comment on at least two classmates’ posts for that week. The schedule for each Module, with due dates, is listed at the end of this syllabus under Schedule.
