Throwing clay originates back to the Neolithic period, roughly 6,000 years ago! The earliest potter's wheel generated movement by leg power and is called a "kick wheel." After watching the demo can you imagine kicking the potter's wheel in order to keep it spinning the whole time, while also trying to form your masterpiece?

Now let's take some time to discuss our favorite functional artworks at home. Do you have a favorite planter's pot or decorative bowl? What aspects of the design are most appealing to you? Is it the texture or color? We typically like our eating surfaces to be smooth but we may not feel the same about other objects that we use on a regular basis.
