A 200 litre geyser is fed from a 240 V distribution board through a 15 A circuit breaker. The geyser is fitted with a 2.5 kW heater element. The maximum temperature of the water must not exceed 60 °C. The thermostat has a hysteresis of 10 °C. Heat loss through the surface of the geyser can be assumed to be constant at 400 W/hr. The environmental temperature is 25 °C. Hundred (100) litres of water is extracted from the geyser at 07h00, 12h00 and 19h00 every day and replaced with water at 25 °C again.
1. Determine the energy consumption over a 5 day period. Temp of the water is 60 °C at 07h00 on Day 1
2. Would there be an energy saving if a timer is added that switch on at 05h00 and switch off at 19h00
every day with the same water consumption from the geyser.
3. What would the effect be if the heater element is replaced with a 1.5 kW unit
