Nursing Care
Assess the following.
Presence of risk factors for infection
Recent travel or exposure to an infectious disease
Behaviors that can put the client at increased risk
Increased temperature, heart, and respiratory rate; thirst; anorexia
Presence of chills, which occur when temperature is rising, and diaphoresis, which occurs when temperature is decreasing
Presence of hyperpyrexia (greater than 41º C [105.8° F]), which can cause brain and organ damage
Implement infection control measures. QS
Perform frequent hand hygiene to prevent transmission of infection to other clients.
Maintain a clean environment.
Perform wound care measures (sterile dressing changes).
Use personal protective equipment/barriers (gloves, masks, gowns, goggles).
Encourage recommended immunizations.
Implement protective precautions as needed
