Recalling the Process for Turning a Patient with a
Turning Sheet
How do you turn a patient with a turning sheet?
Cross the patient's legs. Grasp the turning sheet near the patient's shoulder and hip, and roll the patient onto
or her side. Then place a wedge or pillow behind the patient's
back.
Bend the patient's legs. Position the turning sheet under the patient's back to support the heaviest part of the
body. Roll the patient onto his or her side, and then place a wedge or
pillow behind the patient's back.
* Have the patient fold his or her arms across the chest. Roll the patient over using a three-point turn until the
patient is in the supine position. Then place a wedge or pillow behind his
or her back.
Twist the patient's legs. Place the sheet underneath the bottom half of the patient and roll the patient onto his or
her side. Then place a pillow behind the patient's neck.
