If Sam has a type A blood, it means he has an anti-B antibody to fight for the foreign organisms. That means being type B nor AB is impossible (assuming that Sam's partner would also type A.) Having blood type A and O as an offspring are the possible chances since type O is a universal antibodies for the body.
