Some reputable sources make the argument that “…the gains of the Montgomery Bus Boycott were small compared with the gains blacks would later win…” In essence, this is true. However, such an argument does not acknowledge the true significance of the Bus Boycott. Obviously the greatest success in the movement was the passing of the Civil Rights Act in 1964. However, without incidents like the Boycott, the movement itself may never have existed in the first place. It took place very early in the civil rights period, and was highly prominent in the garnering of national attention to the issue of Civil rights. Serving as a true 'kick-start,' the Montgomery Bus Boycott was the spark needed to start a revolution.
