The Columbian Exchange is also known as Grand Exchange. It is a period of biological and cultural exchanges of the new world and the old world.  It is a widespread exchange of plants, animals, culture, human populations, diseases, technology and ideas between the Afro-Eurasian and American hemisphere during the European colonization in the 15th and 16th century thus resulted into large cultural and material gains for the countries of Europe. This so-called exchange impacted the socio-cultural make-up of both sides of the Atlantic.
