Titration is a method of volumetric analysis in which a a solution of known concentration is used to standardize another solution.
Titration is the major method of volumetric analysis. It is used to standardize a solution of unknown concentration. In acid - base titration, a base and an acid are required. Certain apparatus such as erlenmeyer flask, burette, etc are also required.
The steps involved in titration are;
1) Clean and rinse the buret with water.
2) Rinse the buret with standardized base solution
3) Fill the buret with standardized base solution
4) Read and record the initial buret volume.
5) Use a clean and rinsed volumetric pipet to transfer a known volume of acid to an Erlenmeyer flask.
6) Add three drops of chemical indicator to the acid.
7) Begin adding base from the buret to the acid.
8) Continue adding base from the buret until a color change is observed in the Erlenmeyer flask.
9) Stop addition of base from the buret, and read and record the final buret volume.
