The sentence "..The sun glared down angrily" is an example of figurative language. It is an example of personification, because a sun can not be angry. It is giving an object that isn't human, human like characteristics.

It gives the sun human like qualities which it does not have, because the sun cannot be angry. However, its usage in this text is acceptable because the sun can appear to be angry in your mind or in the author's eyes.
