Earths magnetic field serves to deflect most of the solar wind whose changrd particles would otherwise strip away the ozone layer that protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation
The Earth's magnetic field deflects these particles, and funnels them into the north and south poles of the Earth, where the magnetic field lines enter and exit the Earth. That creates the Northern and Southern Lights. The Earth’s magnetic field also draws the arrow of a compass to the North.
