The nerves that are responsible for converting tactile stimuli into electrical signals that the brain can understand are called mechanoreceptors.
Those are sensory receptors that responds to mechanical stimuli and usually are located in the skin. There are four major types of mechanoreceptors:
• The tactile corpuscles-light touch,
• The bulbous corpuscles- tension deep in the skin and fascia
• The Merkel nerve endings-sustained pressure
• The lamellar corpuscle-rapid vibrations.
