The poem “Negro Speaks of Rivers”is written by Langston Hughes and in this poem he describes the long journey his people,  the African Americans , have made to come here and he uses the imagery of rivers to compare the places they have been and the struggles they have had.  

The poem “We real Cool” is written by Gwendolyn Brooks and it is about a group of young people who loiter and live a fast and dangerous life with drinking and playing and skipping school. In this poem the author criticizes the way the young people behave and in fact this is the everlasting complaint of older people towards reckless youths.
