The United States has a two party system dominated by the Republican party and the Democratic party. These two parties have won every presidential election in the United States since 1856.
There are some benefits that entail for a country to have a two party political system:
- Stability is the main benefit of this type of system. With more political parties in the system, the more unstable this one can get, as there are going to be many different forces and players in one same system, that can end up disrupting this last one.
- There is a certain degree of ease for voters with a two party system, as there are only two choices for every elections, making it somewhat easier for the voter to decide.
- Because there are only two parties, these ones have to appeal to a moderator when a disagreement or conflict arises, making the system a moderated one.
- Organization is easier as well with a two party system. Organizing elections can be a difficult task, but with only two candidates running, elections are organized in a faster and safer way, helping avoid any suspicious situation.
