Answer;

Prophase I

Explanation;

  • Meiosis is the type of cell division which occurs in the gonads in which cells divide in two phases to form four daughter cells that contains half the original number of chromosomes, in other words, haploids.
  • During the first phase of meiosis, meiosis I, an important process called crossover which ensures genetic variation or hybrid vigor among organisms occurs in prophase I.  It occurs when non sister chromatids of the homologous chromosomes join at chiasmata and exchange genetic materials, a process called crossover.

The chiasmata become visible during the diplotene stage of prophase I of meiosis.

What is meiosis?

Meiosis is a process where a single parent cell divides in order to produce four cells which contains half number of chromosomes. This type of cell division occurs in our i.e. sperm in males and eggs in females.

In conclusion, chiasmata become visible during the diplotene stage of prophase I of meiosis.
