When plants evolved to live on land, several changes occurred that enable them live and
allowed them to survive. Those changes are called adaptations and all of them are formed in order to help plants obtain, retain and use water and minerals.
Some of the adaptations:
• Cuticle-it is a waxy layer on the surface of the leaves and stems of land plants that help them to minimize the rate of water evaporation.
• Stomata- small openings on the underside of leaves with the ability to open and close in order to let O2 and CO2 in and out. Closed stomata minimize water loss.
• Vascular tissue (Xylem) - a system for the water transport from roots to stems and leaves.
• Reproductive structures- pollen that can be dispersed through the air (no requirement for water), seeds with embryos inside..
Plant requirements are said to live on land, namely:
- Has thin leaves if in a humid place
- Has stomata for plants in moist areas
- Has cambium stems, hard stems (Examples: Teak, Mahogany)
- Can grow up to several meters
- Dropping leaves in the dry season

2. Hydrophytic Adaptation
Hydrophyte plants are a type of plant that lives in water. Types of plants that live in this environment, for example, lotus and water hyacinth. This plant lives on the surface of the water and is floating. This plant requires nutrients that are directly obtained from water
3. Hygiene Adaptation
Profit plants are types of plants that live in humid environments. Species of plants that live in this environment are examples of ferns, taro, and mosses.
