While flood water usually destroy the land in a relatively short time, it actually does more good than bad. Flooding generally starts out because of the overflowing of irrigation systems, and leads to the destruction of plant, animal, and even human life. However, the overflowing of the banks usually lead to silt, which fertilizes the land, allowing rich soil for farming.
