In Genesis 3:13 it says: 'And the LORD God said unto woman, "What is this that thou hast done?" And the woman said, "The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat."'

While in Milton's poem it reads: 'So having said, he thus to EVE in a few,

"Say Woman, what is this which thou hast done?"

To whom said EVE, with shame nigh overwhelm'd,

Confessing soon, yet not before her Judge,

Bold or loquacious, thus abasht repli'd.

"The Serpent me beguil'd, and I did eate."'


In Milton's version, Eve is ashamed of what she's done.
