Three main principles guided Gandhi in his mass movements:

One of them is Satyagraha (means holding firmly and together with the Ahimsa concept lead to nonviolent forms of protest and civil disobedience);

The second principle is Swadeshi related to self-sufficiency which in the context promoted domestic production in India, rather than relying on British products;

The third principle is the Swaraj which is about self-rule, India was governed by British and imposed west ideas and values on Indian, Gandhi called people for their freedom and India independence.

All these principles can be seen in tree moments of mass movements:

The Khilafat and the Non-Cooperation Movement (1919-22).

Civil Disobedience Movement (1930-34).

Quit India Movement (1942).
