Read the following quote from Hiram Rhodes Revels:

I find that the prejudice in this country to color is very great, and I sometimes fear that it is on the increase...

In the space provided, reflect on Revels’ quote. Do you believe that attitudes toward race have improved since this quote was made? Is there work still to be done? Use examples to support your thoughts.

Respuesta :

One could argue that attitudes towards race have improved since this quote was made in the 1800’s. African Americans no longer have to endure practices such as: slavery, legally being second class citizens to people of European descent , surviving segregation and Jim Crow Laws, the Ku Klux Klan, bias, stereotyping, not being considered citizens, and not being considered human.

But, there is still work to be done as many African Americans still feel the effects of the aforementioned sociopolitical statuses emotionally, socially, financially, and culturally.

Many African Americans cannot afford higher education to earn equally to other races, can experience bias or racism in the workplace and in society, experience police brutality and/or murder, experience psychological effects, attend schools in low income areas/districts with low funding and lack of supplies, and are often subject to reside in high crime areas.
