Acids do appear in the foods we eat. Will the acid harm us? Not if you eat a balanced diet. But with highly-acidic foods, you sure know the acid is there. It's what makes lemons so sour.

I believe it is written in a compare/contrast tone. Because it compares how strong acids can be but also that you can neutralize them by eating a balanced diet.

Also tomatoes are acidic so be careful of eating too many of them.
