Alkanes are group of hydrocarbons that are saturated, which means alkanes contains carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms, such that each carbon bonds to a maximum number of hydrogen atoms.
Alkanes are obtained fro fractional distillation of crude oil or from natural gas.they include; methane, ethane , propane, and butane among others.
Alkanes have low boiling point and low melting point as well as low viscosity.They are insoluble in water. Alkanes burn in air to generate carbon (iv) oxide and water.
