An essay is an organized, connected, and fully developed set of paragraphs that expands on a central idea, central argument, or central statement. These "central" characteristics do not describe what is known as the thesis statement.
The entire point of a thesis statement is to summarize the main points of the essay. Your thesis is so that your reader knows what to esxpect from your essay.
