Animals as Pets

All of us who have animals as pets undoubtedly love them. But is it fair for us to keep them as pets? By doing this, we force them to remain confined within the four walls of our homes. Some animal rights groups even consider it to be against animal welfare. Additionally, keeping animals as pets is a costly affair, both in terms of money and energy. Pet owners have to spend a lot of money on their animals' food and medical care. They need to take time out from their busy schedules to spend time with the animals and take them out for exercise. On humanitarian grounds, it is cruel to keep animals as pets because they are often left alone during the day. They don't have other animals as companions. Imagine how cruel it is to keep birds in a cage when nature has given them wings to soar high up in the sky. Sometimes, pets can be a threat to us too. There is always a risk of animals transferring diseases to humans. There have also been cases where domestic animals have attacked and harmed their owners.
