Read the passage from "Greek Myths: Windows on a Lost World."

One window through which you may look back to the world of the ancient Greeks is by way of the stories they told. These stories describe the world as the Greeks saw it, and as they dreamed it might be. In these stories, the Greeks explained what they thought made a person a hero, a true friend, or a fool. They showed what it meant to be Greek, and what it meant to be human.
