An atom refers to a smallest, indivisible unit that comprises the matter that forms all chemical elements. Therefore, atoms are typically considered as the fundamental building blocks of matter which determines the structure of a chemical element.
Generally, an atom comprises three (3) distinct particles and these are;
- Protons.
- Neutrons.
- Electrons.
Protons refers to the positively charged subatomic particles of a chemical element and an atomic nucleus.
On the other hand, electrons are the negatively charged subatomic particles of a chemical element with a magnitude of -1.
