The table shows the solution to the equation |2x − 3| − 1 = 2:

Step 1 |2x − 3| = 2 + 1
Step 2 |2x − 3| = 3
Step 3 2x − 3 = 3 or 2x + 3 = 3
Step 4 2x = 6 or 2x = 0
Step 5 x = 3 or x = 0
Which is the first incorrect step? (1 point)

Respuesta :

step 3 is the frist incorrect step it should be: 2x-3=3 or 2x-3=-3

The first incorrect step would be step number three since when solving Absolute-Value Equations, when you isolate the Absolute-Value bars and the terms inside of it, the next step should be to make two equations: one that equals the original number given on the right side of the equal sign and one that is the opposite of the number on the equal sign. For example, in this case, Step three should have turned out more like this:

|2x - 3| = 3

2x - 3 = 3 AND  2x - 3 = -3
