Henry Ford created the moving assembly line in 1913 to cheaply produce the Ford Model T automobile. The assembly line significantly decreased the assembly time of the Model T and increased the profit margin for Ford. The new assembly line also impacted workers. The workday was cut from nine hours to eight, which allowed three shift workdays and pay was not reduced. In fact, due to the increased profit margin, Ford increased salaries.
