If two populations of cells that are expressing different levels of P-cadherin are mixed and the cells sort out into a ball of cells, the cells expressing the lower levels of P-cadherin will end up on the inside of the ball. True or false?

  •  Option- True.

"If two populations of cells that are expressing different levels of P-cadherin are mixed and the cells sort out into a ball of cells, the cells expressing the lower levels of P-cadherin will end up on the inside of the ball."

Answer:

False

Explanation:

This is because the level of expression of Cadherin  on cell surface  membrane determines  the sorting out of cells when mixed or adhere together. Evidently  if two cells expressing the the same  P-cadherin  but at different levels are mixed, cells  expressing  low levels  which populated the outer  cells membrane(check the attachments( diagram. B) are  generally sorted out, while cells with higher levels are inside the ball of cells.(check the attachments  diagramme B.).

This display may  attributed to (1) differences in  adhesive activity  of  low levels to high levels, of P-cadherin  and(b) to the differences in the  levels of affinity of the Cadherin to the cell membrane of the two cells.

However, if the cells contains  same levels but of different  different P-cadherin, the diagramme A , in the attachments gives the answer.
