Answer:

According to Ptolemy, all the celestial objects such as the moon, the sun and other planets moves around the earth in a circular path. This means that the earth is located at the center of the solar system.

He made a combination of eccentricity and an epicyclic model in order to explain the motion of planets.

This concept was created because he noticed that some of the planets moves in the western direction, rather than in the eastward direction, with respect to the stars that are present in the sky.

Ptolemy have the planets orbiting earth on circles upon circles in his model of the universe.

  • In the Ptolemaic system, earth stood in the centre of the universe; the moon, sun, and planets moved about the earth in circles.
  • The Ptolemaic system was believed by Church and was challenged in the 16th century.
  • Ptolemy made use of epicycles, small circles attached to the rims of larger circles.

Therefore we can conclude that Ptolemy indicated that a planet revolved uniformly around the small circle, which in turn revolved about the earth.
