There was a period were the role between each gender is predetermined.

Men as provider, and women as the nurturer.

This create an unbalance power between men and women, creating a male dominant human society in which men became the leaders and women has to follow

now, as the equality between sexes started to exist, women also could played the role as the provider creating a society in which women also could became the leaders

Answer: The way that equality between the sexes shaped human society goes back to when the dominance of males rose with the adoption of agriculture and the accompanying excess resources that came with that lifestyle. It is believed that even back then the equality between the sexes played a major role in the survival advantage to groups of early humans, and may have also helped bring  new social and language skills.
