When Christianity became legal in the Roman empire in 313 AD it help the religion grow in Europe (because the Roman Empire controlled most of Europe). When it became the official religion of the Roman Empire it gained even more influence. After the fall of the Roman empire the religion grew even more and even spreed into North America when Christopher Columbus discovered North America. Thanks to the Romans Christianity is the main religion of Europe and North America and many other places as well.
