The Cold War affected the political situation of developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America by political and economic instability. There were difficulties with the amount of debt, poor democracies, weakened structures and unstable governments. The influence was more negative than it was positive.

The similarities of the War on Terror and the Cold War are that there were lives constantly at risk. There was also a threat of nuclear war. The difference between the two wars are that during the Cold War the opponents had never actually came into conflict. It was more of a race to see who was more powerful. The War on Terror actually involved a military campaign and an actual conflict happening. The War on Terror led to thousands of deaths. The global role of the United States has changed since the fall of the Soviet Union. It is said that America has more of a global role. Also, America doesn’t focus on fighting communism nearly as much.
