Let [tex]y[/tex] be bags of chips and [tex]x[/tex] bottles of Gatorade.

The system of linear equations emerges.

[tex]3y+2x=7.35[/tex]

[tex]x=1.8[/tex]

Insert value of x from second equation into first to get rid of the system and get:

[tex]3y+2(1.8)=7.35[/tex]

Now solve for y.

[tex]y=\frac{7.35-2(1.8)}{3}=1.25[/tex].

A bag of chips costs $1.25.
