You want equal rates of both intake and loss, as too much intake will result in internal drowning and bloating, while too much loss will result in dehydration and potential organ failure. To keep a consistent fluid quantity in the body, both intake and outflow (or loss) must be equal and balanced and if not, one side must be addressed to bring back to the equilibrium.
