The first Great Society program to address the "War on Poverty" was the ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY ACT.
The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 established the Office of Economic Opportunity. This Act has the following purpose.
1) Eliminate poverty
2) Expand educational opportunities
3) Increase the safety net for the poor and unemployed
4) Tend to health and financial needs of the elderly
