General Augusto Pinochet was responsible for the disappearance of thousands of people in Chile
The answer is: the disappearance of thousands of people in Chile.
Pinochet´s dictatorship ruled Chile from 1973 to 1990 after Salvador Allende, Chile´s democratically elected president was overthrown in a coup d´état supported by the USA on September 11, 1973. The rule of Pinochet was one of the most brutal of Latin American dictatorships in the second half of the 20th century, and it has been proven that Pinochet´s government was directly responsible for the assassination of thousands of Chileans amongst many other crimes against humanity and human rights violations. Some of these crimes are still being prosecuted today and their consequences are still felt nowadays.
