In this unit, you have looked at different types of characters in fiction and in drama. Characters are essential to a story because they help move the story forward. Some characters undergo significant changes over the course of the story. Often, the reader may find that a character is easy to relate to. Or the reader may find that a character has qualities that he or she wishes to have.

Choose a character that you enjoyed reading about from a story or a drama. Which character did you choose? Why do you like this character? Can you relate to the character? Explain why. I chose Katie's Everdeen. I like this character because she is fearless in the face of danger. I can relate to this character from when I was younger and got stuck at the top of the ferris wheel and had to climb down. I did it with no problem when I focused on my goal and not the dangers of my situation. I wish I could be as smart as she was during her situation. She did it without having to think about her options for a long time. I also wish I had her bravery. It is a death threatening situation and she didn't let that get to her in the end. I learned that if you keep your head up and focus on the positive things and complete small goals at a time, then I can achieve the "impossible".
