What is the meaning of this Julius Caesar quote?

“If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar,this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar less but that I loved Rome more. Brutus says he rose against Caesar not because he didn't love him, but because he loved Rome more. If Caesar were still living, they'd all be slaves. While Caesar was a lot of good things, he had to die for his ambition. his offenses enforced for which he suffered death.
