1) Use the graph of f(x) = x2 to sketch the graph of the function h(x) = (x + 5)2

Solution:

We have,

[tex]f(x)=x^2[/tex]

It a parent quadratic function. The graph of this function is an upward parabola with vertex at origin, i.e., (0,0).

Now,

[tex]h(x)=(x+5)^2[/tex]

It can be written as

[tex]h(x)=f(x+5)[/tex]           [tex][\because f(x)=x^2][/tex]

It means, the graph of f(x) shifted 5 units left to get the graph of h(x)

Therefore, the graph of both functions are shown below.
