Air contains mostly nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21%). It also contains other gases, including carbon dioxide and helium, and various pollutants (both gases and solids). Write a brief explanation about why air is a mixture, whether it is homogeneous or heterogeneous, and how it can be separated into its components.

Respuesta :

Air is heterogenous mixture because it is made of components that can seperate, The process to sperate air into its components is called fractional distillation. In this process, air coverts to a liquid form, and then it seprates into seperate layers, which then helps you to see air's components.

hopefully this helps you.

Answer:

Air is a heterogeneous mixture because it is made of components that can separate. The process to separate air into its components is called fractional distillation. In fractional distillation for air, the air is liquefied, meaning it converts to a liquid form. Water vapor condenses, and is removed by using absorbent filters. Fractional distillation of liquefied air (liquid air) involved turbines and high-energy refrigeration systems for the cooling process. Once the temperature reaches the sublimation or boiling points of carbon dioxide, as well as other trace gases, they settle out. Sublimation is defined as “the transition from the solid phase to the gas phase without passing through an intermediate liquid phase.” The liquefied mixture travels from a tube into a vessel that is slightly warmer at the bottom, which is -185 degrees Celsius, than the top, which is -190 degrees Celsius. This happens when the temperature reaches -200 degrees Celsius.

This is similar to the other answer, I just added more details. Also, I did the assignment for my Chemistry class.
