Why did Genghis Khan divide the rule of his empire among four sons?

He did not trust any of his sons to rule the entire empire.
He feared the clans would choose someone other than his sons to rule.
He wanted to make daily governing easier and let his sons share power.
He planned to see which son would be the strongest, most capable ruler.
