If the mutation is beneficial to the organism it will give the organism a better chance of survival while the other organisms of that species will have a harder time surviving and reproducing without the mutation. Those animals of the species will get weeded out by natural selection and the mutation becomes mainstream in the gene pool, as it is advantagious to the species.
