I think he included this examples to relate to a younger audience. The paragraph is about growth. In the text it states " No one is born good at all things." which is true so to show that not everyone can hit that high note the first time. Kick the football right to the end zone. Not everyone is good at something the first time but practice and growth makes perfect.
