James Fenimore Cooper (pseudonym Jane Morgan 1789-1851) was American author and critic. He wrote The Last of the Mohicans (1826). He occupies the strange position of being among the 1st & last of America’s great novelists. Cooper helped create the uniquely American myth. Bumppo embodies the myth of the essential white America.
