On ships that navigate reservoirs, waterways, and coastlines, seafarers are employed. They are in charge of the direction, management of freight, upkeep, and protection of the ship. Seafarers engage in lengthy shifts in challenging circumstances.
The Seafarer starts to think back on his experiences and the challenges he encountered while on the water. When he resumed his position as a security guard at the prow of his ship, he would be wet and overwhelmed by the roughness of the cliffs and the force of the sea.
His toes would have been paralyzed, and his bowels might have been tortured by famine in a way that only seamen can understand. This can be seen in the following dialog of the poem:
