The light reaction in the correct order - H > I > G > D > F > C > A > B > E >
The light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis utilize the light energy to make two molecules needed for the other stages of photosynthesis. The thylakoid of the chloroplast is the site for light reactions.
the energy storage molecule ATP and the reduced electron carrier NADPH.
- Photosystems are the large protein complexes that contain pigments that play an essential role in light reactions as they harvest energy.
- Photosystem I (PSI) and photosystem II (PSII) are two types of photosystems.
- The pigments present in the photosystems trap light energy and a reaction center that contains a special pair of chlorophyll molecules of the photosystem.
- P700 is the special pair of photosystem I while P680 is the special pair of photosystem II.
MAIN STEPS IN THE PROCESS -
- Light absorption in PS II -
The electron gets excited from PS II ( P680 ) and is accepted by an electron acceptor.
- Splitting up of water molecule -
This electron is replaced by water and gets split into H + and O2.
- ATP synthesis -
ADP is converted to ATPase when the H+ ions travel from the thylakoid lumen to the stroma.
- Light absorption in PS I
The electron in PS I get excited when light falls and compensated from the electron released from the PS II.
- NADPH formation -
NADP + complex accepts the electron and gets converted to NADPH.
Thus, The light reaction in the correct order - H > I > G > D > F > C > A > B > E >
