Which twentieth-century president am I? I entered office in the midst of the worst economic depression this country has seen. I had a plan though, a New Deal, in which the nations wealth was distributed broadly to those in need. I passed as much legislation as possible, because any legislation was better than none in those desperate times. It was also important to me during those times to ease the minds of the people and help them to remain optimistic, so I often gave "fireside chats" to reach the citizens.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

President Franklin D. Roosevelt took office in 1933 when the U.S. was in the mid of its worst economic downturn: the Great Depression, which had left millions of people unemployed, without savings and struggling. As soon as Roosevelt entered the White House, he felt committed to actively help Americans through those difficult times, he created a series of measures, projects and agencies under his New Deal plan, that aimed to increase the employment rate, help those most in need (the elderly, the poor), to restore the confidence in the banking system and make other social and economic reforms.

During his terms, Roosevelt also addressed Americans in a series of 30 speeches broadcast via radio, known as "Fireside chats", in which he spoke on a variety of topics concerning Americans and his New Deal initiatives in order to give people hope. He took care of doing it in a friendly manner and in a clear language.

Roosevelt was popular among Americans that he became the first president to ever be elected for four consecutive terms.
