Use your lesson notes and independent research into the Baroque period, as well as Bach’s life and work, to write a cover letter to Leipzig’s city council. Pretend that you are Mr. Bach in 1722 and you are applying for the position of Thomaskantor (Cantor at the St. Thomas Church) in Leipzig. In the letter, you should include:
your past professional experiences (where and for who you worked, and what your assignments were)
your skills and competences (give examples of your music explaining why it is successful)
how you would contribute positively to this new position (research on Bach’s work and life in Leipzig).
Try to “sell” yourself not only as a composer, but also as a music teacher and music director in the 18th century’s society.
